To hit the target yet not to pierce it.
Layer I:
Aim your bow, then fire only at the right time. Add 4 to hit but deal 1d3 damage, a sportsman shot.
Layer II:
During a duel, the parry action improves AC by an additional point. If you feint successfully, you may choose to attempt a disarm. They must make a Paralysis Save to resist; this effectively cancels their attack.
Layer III:
With a scroll and brush you can write characters beautiful enough to contain Truth. Any creature may read them, but you may only write about matters related to decorum, morality, and norms all communicated through stories about the philosopher king Shun.
